The Chicago Yacht Club Race Committee facilitates a fair, fun, and competitive racing program. Race Committee volunteers love being on the water and are the backbone of CYC's racing program.

The Chicago Yacht Club hosts a packed racing season, including annual regattas like the Race to Mackinac, the Chicago Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series, the Chicago Yacht Club Verve Regattas, and the Chicago Grand Slam as well as racing series like the Racing Yacht Fleet Series, Wednesday Night Skyline Series, and the Frostbite Series in the spring and fall. Our reputation for exceptional race management helps attract National, North American, and World Championships to CYC.

HOW TO REGISTER REGISTER FOR AN OPPORTUNITY
  • Who is on the Race Committee?

    • Many volunteers are racers, former racers, or friends and family of competitors, but all competent mariners who enjoy the camaraderie of the yacht racing community and want to learn are welcome. Racing experience is not required, but we are looking for committed team players that are interested in learning and developing their skills. CYC membership is encouraged but not required to volunteer for Race Committee.

  • How can I contribute?

    • The Race Committee team requires diverse sets of skills both on and off the water from planning and communication before events, to registering competitors, to setting marks and racecourses, to running start sequences. Try a few multiple roles to learn what fits you and your interest/ skillsets the best! 

  • How often do I volunteer?

    • Race Committee members volunteer anywhere from one to 46+ days, but most average 13 days on the water in a season. All volunteers are encouraged to participate regularly to develop skillful teams for our events. Find and register for available RC volunteer opportunities through CERVIS.

      The committee also gathers onshore for monthly meetings and social activities throughout the year. Check the club calendar for upcoming social activities and training events.

  • How do I sign up to volunteer for the race committee?

    • RC signups are managed through CERVIS where you can view and sign up for all the available opportunities. Learn how to register for an opportunity here.
