DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SAILING

POSITION TYPE: Full Time

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Community Sailing will report directly to CYC’s On-the-Water Director and work with the Foundation’s Board of Directors. In this role, he/she will execute an exciting and ambitious strategic plan that calls for rapid growth of the organization and a meaningful positive impact on the lives of thousands of Chicago youth.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop a series of programs designed to introduce large numbers of Chicagoland’s children to boating on the lakefront at Chicago Yacht Club’s two facilities at Monroe and Belmont Harbors. In particular, the successful candidate will lead a new collaboration between CYC and the Foundation to build a community sailing program in Chicago’s downtown Monroe Harbor and will play a leading role in overseeing a fleet of keelboats and associated programs.
  • Launch a new joint initiative to build high school sailing teams in underserved high schools in Chicagoland. Coaching assistance for High School Sailing at our Belmont location would be needed during the off-season or shoulder season. CYC accommodates six teams, ranging from beginners learning to sail to Junior and Varsity teams.
  • Develop a series of programs designed to develop boating skills in Chicagoland youth from underserved areas and groups, including support of the Sea Scout Ship Privateer.
  • Develop a series of community engagement programs designed to provide interested Chicagoland kids the opportunity to learn about boating in a series of intensive multi-day camps in Chicago and elsewhere around the Great Lakes.
  • Assist in marketing, including building out the Foundation’s social media presence and curation of the Foundation’s website and photo galleries.
  • Assist in developing relationships with community partners, including various social service agencies and schools.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong interest in boating and community outreach
  • Excel in working collaboratively with many different groups of stakeholders, including volunteers, community partners, CYC Members, and Foundation Donors

  • The ability to connect with and mentor youth sailors is required
  • Must be physically fit and able to participate in sailing activities
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and during peak sailing season.
  • Previous experience in sailing instruction and program management is required. Certification from a recognized sailing association is preferred, such as US Sailing Small Boat Level 1. Preferred Level 3 or international equivalent. SafeSport, CPR and First Aid, NASBLA Safe Powerboat Handling or equivalent.
  • Some travel via car within the Chicago metropolitan area will be required, and candidates should have a valid driver’s license and a car.
  • Prior experience in youth education, sailing education, development of community sailing programs, STEM education, marketing, and fundraising is preferred.

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

The Club offers year-round activities for its membership at two locations on the city’s shoreline, at Monroe and Belmont Harbors. SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Human Resources Manager is responsible for guiding and managing the overall Human Resources operation.

  • Conduct the day-to-day HR needs and managing a seamless centralized HR service for all associates at two separate locations, for approximately 150 associates
  • Assist all associates with their benefit, company policy, and payroll questions
  • Lead the Recruitment process, by attending job fairs, posting on job boards, and assisting managers with the selection process to ensure top talent, as needed.
  • Manage Unemployment Claims by responding in a timely manner, and coordinating responses with management
  • Provide guidance to management with identifying and addressing associate issues and concerns, appropriately and in compliance with all legal guidelines
  • Encourage strong associate relations through open communication, professional conduct, addressing and resolving employee issues, maintaining appropriate confidentiality, and implementation of industry best practices.
  • Work with company’s benefit consultant to ensure Open Enrollment is successful by scheduling workshops, coordinated with Payroll company, and applied correctly to each employee, per their request.

ADULT SAILING INSTRUCTOR

POSITION TYPE: Part Time Seasonal

Are you a good teacher and communicator that likes to sail? Spend your weekends sailing with us! Classes run Memorial Day through the end of September. Chicago Yacht Club is seeking Sailing Instructors to teach our adult sailing courses: US Sailing Basic Keelboat Courses, learn to sail, performance sailing and private lessons. Applicants will preferably have instructor certification, CPR and First Aid.

This is a part time seasonal position based at Belmont Harbor, payrate will be based on qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • US Sailing Level 1 or Keelboat Instructor Certification, equivalent or more advanced preferred
  • A passion for sailing and working with students
  • Can work effectively with a wide variety of age groups and populations from diverse backgrounds, role modeling inclusive behavior and building positive group culture
  • Able to communicate clearly and directly
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback
  • Able to build rapport easily with students and colleagues
  • Passionate about and dedicated to experiential education for students
  • Able to meet different learning-style needs by varying teaching techniques
  • Sufficiently physically fit to participate in all site and course activities while maintaining ample energy, strength, and focus to aid students

COOK / DISHWASHER

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time/Part-Time

Have a passion for cooking or prefer everything neat and tidy in the kitchen? Like watching the boats on the Lake? Come work at the Chicago Yacht Club this summer! We have immediate openings for Cooks and Dishwashers, at both our locations right now. Our Belmont location is a family-friendly casual dining experience, and our Monroe location is an upscale dining establishment. Not sure where you fall in that bracket? COOKS: Assists in food production for all food outlets, banquet events and other functions at the club. At least one year of experience, but we are willing to train the right person!

DISHWASHERS: Responsible for washing all dishes, including pots and pans. Disposing of garbage properly, cleaning all work areas in compliance with sanitation guidelines.

BARTENDERS

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time/Part-Time

Our main bar and banquets need bartenders with a willingness to provide outstanding service to our members and their guests. We are looking for friendly and motivated seasonal employees that have a flexible schedule. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours. Must be able to work in a fast paced, high energy environment and be a team player. Must have good communication skills, have the ability to lift and carry weight of access up to 50 lbs. Ideal applicant must have P.O.S. experience additional consideration given to those with Private Club experience. Drug testing is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Set up and prepare tables before service. Take care of all side-work necessary. Take and serve orders. Demonstrate genuine hospitality while greeting and establishing positive relationships with members and guests throughout the club Constantly delivering exceptional dining experiences Stock, organize, and maintain restaurant equipment, storage, dining room, and terraces Stock and maintain all snack areas Setup and breakdown of bar Keep the dining rooms, bars, and terraces clean, safe, and presentable at all times while always providing friendly and attentive service Excel in the delivery of food and beverages to members and guests Enter orders in POS system.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 21 years of age or older One year experience as a Bartender or private clubs. Wine and spirit knowledge is a plus. Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work effectively within a team. Must have a professional demeanor.

SERVERS

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time/Part-Time

Dining rooms and banquets need food and beverage professionals with a willingness to provide outstanding service to our members and their guests. We are looking for friendly and motivated employees that have a flexible schedule to work including weekends and Holidays. Must be able to work in a fast-paced high energy environment and be a team player. Full time and Part time positions available. Basset Certification preferred. Competitive base pay. Drug testing is mandatory. About: We are a World Class Private Yacht club; dedicated to giving our members excellent food, beverage, and service. Our team goes above and beyond to ensure our members have positive experiences each and every day.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate genuine hospitality while greeting and establishing positive relationships with members and guests throughout the club Constantly delivering exceptional dining experiences Stock, organize, and maintain restaurant equipment, storage, dining room, and terraces Stock and maintain all snack areas Setup and breakdown of restaurant, bar, and events Perform all side work as assigned Keep the dining rooms, bars, and terraces clean, safe, and presentable at all times while always providing friendly and attentive service Excel in the delivery of food and beverages to members and guests Set, maintain, and clear all tables in the restaurant, bar, and on the terraces Deliver lunch and dinner orders, plates, silverware, and napkins as needed Assist with setup, and maintain all lunch and dinner buffets for club events and/ or private member events Own every member request Enter orders through P.O.S. using correct seat and table numbers Any other duties assigned by the Food and Beverage Managers or General Manager.
