SHELDON CLARK REGATTA
Saturday, September 14
Sheldon Clark was commodore from 1920 to 1923 but his cultivation of yacht racing continued on for three decades. In 1927 he, along with a number of members, established a trophy fund to offer several new trophies.
The Sheldon Clark Cruising Division Time Prize was first offered at the 1927 Fall Regatta which later became known as the Sheldon Clark Regatta. In 1988 rating rules had become more numerous among the offshore boats so an overall regatta award was discontinued. The tradition was restarted in 2006 but the weather was not cooperative for the first two revival years.
The trophy for the best time in the Chicago Mackinac Race and the Bayview Mackinac Race and an Inshore Fleet trophy also bear the name of Sheldon Clark.
