Dear
Chicago Yacht Club Members:
Your club
leadership and professional staff have been closely monitoring the current
COVID-19 situation as it develops. We
have consulted with our Fleet Surgeon Dr. Chris Albanis, M.D to provide
oversight and perspective. Below is a
note from Dr. Albanis that will supplement what you have been reading in other
media areas. Thank you Dr. Albanis for your insight and professional due
diligence.

Fleet Surgeon’s Note-CORONAVIRUS –
COVID – 19
As
everyone knows, there is a new virus called Coronavirus/Covid-19 that has
surfaced around the world, including in the USA and specifically Chicago. To that end, we want to be sure everyone
knows what precautions to take to protect yourself and each other while at CYC. This communication is not meant to be all
inclusive, as the information changes frequently as physicians, researchers and
pharmaceutical companies continue to learn more daily about the virus. Further, this is not meant to scare you or serve
as a substitute for any information your personal medical doctor has provided
you. This is meant to inform you about
what we know so far about the virus, what CYC has done to prepare, and what you
can do to prevent the spread of common viruses/conditions while at CYC.
I look forward to seeing you at the Club
soon!
Chris
Albanis, M.D. ~ CYC Fleet Surgeon

PREVENTION IS KEY. PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
- Cover your mouth if coughing/sneezing. Ideally with a tissue, otherwise with your sleeve/elbow and preferable not your hand.
- Do not touch your eyes, nose, mouth.Wash your hands (with soap and water for 20 seconds)/use hand sanitizer routinely, especially while at social events.
- If you haven’t already obtained the flu shot, and are medically stable to do so, there is still time.
- If you are experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness, fever, headaches, diarrhea, please inform your doctor and distance yourself from others (following the direction of your medical provider and/or the recommendations in the links below from the CDC, WHO).
- If you or someone you know has recently traveled to a high-risk region, please follow the guidelines in the link below from the CDC.
- Masks do not need to be worn, unless you’re instructed to do so by a doctor.
- Maintain “social distancing” (i.e. 3 – 6 feet) from anyone who is repeatedly coughing/sneezing.
- Minimize handshakes especially while eating.
|
WHAT MEASURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN AT CYC:
- The CYC leadership is continuing to monitor and remain up to date on the current recommendations.
- The CYC staff has been trained on the above hygiene measures.
- The CYC staff has increased the wiping of surfaces including countertops, door handles, etc. Sanitation throughout the kitchen and bar areas remain top priority.
- There are hand sanitizers throughout the Club.
- We will continue to monitor the news and recommendations from the CDC, WHO and the AMA and make any adjustments needed.
- If you’d like further/more detailed information, you can find it in the links below.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
- Fever, feeling tired,
dry cough
- Some people are
without symptoms

aches/pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea, headache
|
HOW IS CORONAVIRUS SPREAD?
