Crew U is a seven-week program that starts in May and goes through June. This class is led by members of the Chicago Yacht Club who offer their boats and wisdom to help you get the skills you need to crew on a boat. The course includes some classroom instruction, but the vast majority is taught on the water. The classes are held on Tuesday nights, and many students get additional practical experience racing on offshore boats during Wednesday night racing. If you are interested in being part of yacht racing on Lake Michigan, this is a great way to up your experience and build relationships that may yield a position all summer long on one of the boats.

Match Racing is a fun and fast growing form of the sport with more action per minute than your average day of racing. Whether you are a one design or big boat racer, we promise that you will enjoy Match racing. It's a great way to improve your skills, including starting, tactics, boat handling, and understanding rules. There are opportunities for members of all levels to crew and skipper. We are inviting everyone, from juniors looking to take their sailing to the next level to experienced offshore sailors looking for something new and fun.

Sailors of all strengths are valued in Match Racing. You can contribute your area of expertise - foredeck, trimming, helming, strategy, rules, short-course know-how, or physical strength - to a team's winning effort. Get involved, have some fun! These events are focused on learning all phases of match racing.

You can bring your own team, or teams of individuals will be assigned by the coach for practices. Each practice will include drills and races to raise everybody’s level. At the conclusion of each Practice, all sailors are invited to Belmont to enjoy a beverage while we debrief the lessons from the day. Learn more.

The Women’s Committee hosts educational programs, networking events and monthly happy hours that encourages the women of the Club to get onto the water. The series features winter lectures and a summer sailing series that teaches attendees the ins and outs of sailing, racing tactics and new developments in the sport. It's professional instruction for women, by women.
