High School Sailing
Chicago Yacht Club is proud to host one of the largest high school sailing programs in the Midwest district. Between the Sailing School's facilities located at Belmont Station and it's full and part-time coaches, the program has been able to grow to over 80 sailors. The Fall Season begins in Late August and continues through mid-November; the Spring Season starts in the beginning of March and runs through May. The program consists of 6 established high school teams: New Trier High School, Walter Payton College Prep, St. Ignatius College Prep, Latin School of Chicago, Lycee Francais de Chicago, and Rickover Naval Academy.
REsults FALL 2019
This fantastic season capped off with four final events in November. All 5 of the teams coached at the Chicago Yacht Club Sailing School qualified to advance to play at the fall season's final regattas. The accomplishments of our scholastic athletes, the hard work and dedication to their sport is evidenced by their ability to compete at these National and Regional events.
On November 2 & 3, Coach Youssef Akrout traveled to Santa Barbara, CA to coach an unprecedented two competitors from St. Ignatius College Prep at the Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) Cressy National Championship.
On November 9 & 10, Matt Peter, Head Coach, traveled to New Jersey with teams St. Ignatius and New Trier to compete in the Atlantic Coast Championships.
Also on November 9 & 10, the Chicago Yacht Club teams in collaboration with Columbia Yacht Club teams respectively hosted The MISSA Great Lakes Championship and The MISSA Shepherd Championship on a shared trapezoid race course with a combined Race Committee. What an unbelievable, must see event! An amazing 37 schools from all over the mid-west joined to compete on the empty mooring field at Monroe Harbor. Athletes from Latin, St. Ignatius, and New Trier earned berths at the Great Lakes Champs and Rickover Naval Academy and Walter Payton qualified to race at The Shepherd Champs.
Congratulations to all our scholastic athletes for putting up an amazing Fall Season!! See you in the Spring!
