Chicago Yacht Club's Verve Cup Regatta Celebrates 25th Anniversary This Weekend

Chicago, IL

Chicago Yacht Club’s 25th Annual Verve Cup Offshore Regatta kicks off this weekend and is the third major event of Chicago’s racing season. As one of the Lake Michigan’s premier regattas, 95 boats have registered for three days of racing across two circles and one distance race starting Friday, August 11.

“The regatta features a three-day offshore course race from Friday through Sunday. This weekend we are excited to be celebrating this milestone and expect great racing weather,” said Verve Cup Chairman Ted Towey, who is sailing on the J/105 Southbound.

The distance race, which will be held on Saturday, has 25 boats registered and was first introduced as a standalone course in 2010. The distance race has become extremely popular and this year the Chicago Area Sail Racing Association’s (CASRA) Casual Series racers have signed up to participate.

The 2017 Verve Cup is supported by Quantum Sails, Gill, Team One Newport, Mount Gay Rum, Heineken and Luc Belaire. A special thank you to Chris Bedford, Chief Meteorologist at Sailing Weather Service, who will provide daily weather forecasts.

Racing begins daily at 10:55 A.M., and will take place on two courses 4-5 miles off of Monroe Harbor.
