Chicago Yacht Club Partners with Wintrust to Host Regatta Benefitting Children’s Charities

Chicago, IL

Chicago Yacht Club is pleased to announce the Chicago Regatta, presented by Wintrust, will take place on September 9, 2017 and benefit children’s charities. The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital, SOS Children’s Villages Illinois, and the Chicago Yacht Club Foundation will benefit from this new event.

“We are proud to be able to partner with Wintrust to host this event for the benefit of the children of Chicago served by these wonderful institutions,” said Chicago Yacht Club Commodore, Leif Sigmond.

The regatta includes a number of events for all types of boaters, including buoy racing, distance race, and a new fun and easy casual race for newer racers. In addition, power boaters will enjoy a fun and exciting Poker Run along Chicago’s lakefront. A gala party and silent auction will follow the on-water activities. “There will be something for everyone,” said Commodore Sigmond.

Sponsors will be providing matching charitable contributions to the three institutions being benefited. Wintrust is this year’s Presenting Sponsor of the event and substantial support is also being provided by the Pinnacle Foundation.

The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital has provided comprehensive, innovative medical care to children since its first pediatric facility was opened in 1930. Today, Comer Children's is a 172-bed hospital staffed by highly trained pediatricians, specially trained nurses and caring support staff, who work together to provide general and specialty medical care for newborns to young adults.

SOS Children’s Villages Illinois, founded over 25 years ago, is a nonprofit, child welfare agency that serves children in foster care and at-risk youth in communities surrounding its sites. The SOS Children's Villages model of care differs from traditional foster care by keeping brothers and sisters together in an SOS Illinois single-family home, where they are cared for by a full-time, professionally trained Foster Parent and surrounded by a community of support.

The Chicago Yacht Club Foundation is an organization whose purpose is to bring awareness and appreciation of the nautical arts and traditions to the Chicagoland community. A primary goal is to broaden the horizons of youth through instruction in after school programs, sailing scholarships, sailing clinics, and support of organizations like the Rickover Academy, the Chicago Christmas Ship, the Chicago Maritime Museum, handicapped sailing and other nautically oriented activities.
