    • march 29 - may 10: spring frostbite series

From March until May, and again from October through November, the club offers Frostbite sailing out of the Belmont Station. Both members and non-members are welcome to come compete and enjoy Belmont each day after racing.
As the name suggests the wind and the water may be cold, but the competition is hot and fun.Continuing a tradition more than 70 years in the making, J70s, Sonar, Laser and Vanguard 15 sailors head to Belmont for racing on Sundays throughout the late fall and early spring.  Chicago Yacht Club members may rent boats from the Club's Sonar fleet. The best way to rent Sonars is to become a Sonar fleet member.
Once we are back on the dock sailors will enjoy socializing with fellow Frostbiters over hot beverages and soup. Belmont Station also offers a limited lunch menu and bar service throughout the Frostbite season. The Frostbite Series is open to both Chicago Yacht Club members and non-members.

      august 29 - 30 sterling morton

The newly created Sterling Morton Regatta will take place on August 29-30, 2020 . The format of the regatta will be inter-club racing in our fleet of equalized Sonars. These boats are the same as used in the 2018 US Match Race Championships and all of our club’s match race regattas. The Sterling Morton Trophy was originally gifted to Chicago Yacht Club for a Star Class interclub fleet race in 1937. The engraving impressively lists names such as Nye, Stearns, Comer and Parks who are all part of Chicago’s sailing heritage. Regatta organizers will review applications and notify the nine selected teams via email. Invitations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

      september 19: sheldon Clark

Sheldon Clark was commodore from 1920 to 1923 but his cultivation of yacht racing continued on for three decades. In 1927 he, along with a number of members, established a trophy fund to offer several new trophies. The Sheldon Clark Cruising Division Time Prize was first offered at the 1927 Fall Regatta which later became known as the Sheldon Clark Regatta. In 1988 rating rules had become more numerous among the offshore boats so an overall regatta award was discontinued. The tradition was restarted in 2006 but the weather was not cooperative for the first two revival years. The trophy for the best time in the Chicago Mackinac Race and the Bayview Mackinac Race and an Inshore Fleet trophy also bear the name of Sheldon Clark.
