Belmont Harbor

Chicago Yacht Club's stately northside clubhouse sits floating off the shoreline of Belmont Harbor overlooking Lakeview to the north and Lincoln Park to the south. With the Sailing Activities Center adjacent to the clubhouse, we offer extensive meeting and private event opportunities to accommodate your needs, no matter the size or theme of your function.

Belmont Station

As Chicago Yacht Club’s one-design sailing headquarters, Belmont is home to our renowned junior and adult sailing programs. Approximately 300 young boaters take part in our sailing school each season. Belmont Station also hosts various sailing activities throughout the year including competitive one-design class racing in Etchells, Shields, Luders and Vanguards. Weekly Chicago Match Racing Center races on Tuesday's during the season, Wednesday night Beer Can Racing runs in conjunction with Monroe Station during the summer, and the spring and fall Sunday Frost Bite Racing round out the yachting calendar.

The Club recently purchased 11 23' sonars, with two specifically rigged for rec sailing for CYC members to rent and sail. In addition we own several paddle boards and kayaks for members to rent at a minimal rate.

Belmont offers a casual atmosphere for cruisers and racers alike. Just spend one afternoon in the floating clubhouse and you'll understand why our members love Belmont.

At Belmont Station, casual attire is acceptable at all times.

Belmont Facility Offerings

The Chicago Yacht Club hosts about 100 sailing regattas each year. To accomplish this a well trained and active Race Committee is required to ensure that we can deliver high quality racing at these regattas. Belmont Station is the home of the Race Committee. The Race Committee is comprised of both members and non-members. The Club welcomes people who would be interested in learning about yacht racing and being part of the Race Committee. The Club offers training including certification by US Sailing on a regular basis. Contact the Regatta Manager to learn more.

Docking in Chicago is controlled by the Chicago Park District. The Club does have a limited number of docks for members to load in crew and provisions at no charge for up to 5 hours. After 5 hours the price for members is $1.25 a foot per day. Visiting yachtsmen prices are $3.25 a foot per day from the time of docking to the time of departure. The docks are also available for overnight accommodations to members and visiting yachtsmen. Contact the Belmont Dockmaster for details and availability.

Belmont Station also has a Gin Pole to assist with mast stepping, and three jib cranes for launching and retrieving yachts less than 5 tons.

Our Sailing School offers lessons to juniors interested in getting involved in sailing. Starting with "Dinghy Demons" for our smallest of sailors, this porgram is designed for the little children who have learned to swim to become advanced sailors, competing at a national level. All instruction is administered by our professional US Sailing Certified staff, as well as American Red Cross, and supported by collegiate All-American sailors. The school has a fleet of Bugs, Optimists, Club 420's and Sonars for instruction. The sailing school is available to both members and non-members, and all classes are filled by early spring. We use Sonars for our Adult learn-to-sail platform. Our instructors, certified by US Sailing and American Red Cross, use the US Sailing Keelboat curriculum. Successful completion of the course provides the student with training required to receive their certification.

Members are able to rent the Sonars to do free-style sailing. Additionally, they are welcome to compete in various yacht racing activities offered by the club such as Frostbiting and Team Racing.  Click here to learn more and register.

Paddle Boards and Kayaks are now available for members to rent and enjoy as well!  Click here to learn more.
A mixture of a la carte dining as well as buffets offer rich variety food stylings for members to enjoy.

A class that has both classroom and on the water training, helps to enhance skill sets for boaters who handle small motor boats. The class using certified instructors from US Power Boating, provides a certificate upon completion. The class is available to both members and non-members. Click here to learn more and register.
